Bankruptcy is a long term solution to the problem of debt.  It is something that stays on your credit report for at least eight years.  This is something that can cause the application of a job, a loan, or a mortgage to be turned down.  So it is a choice that must be thought on really hard before a final decision is reached.  One must think about what they may want or expect eight years from the time they are looking to file.  If there are plans for any significant life changes to be made then one might want to consider taking a different route to get rid of debt.
