I’ve lived in or near Denver for the last nine years. Now Maureen and I are ready for a break. The summers are just too damned hot anymore and I miss my green trees and foliage, so it’s off to Oregon, place of my birth.More and more I’m coming around to the concept that the universe sends you messages. Messages that for a bunch of reasons you’d ought not to ignore.Lately it’s been one thing after another. About a month ago I was tooling down Park Avenue after dark. Like any city we have our share of folks who practice alternative lifestyles, shall we say. On this particular night, one of these fellows decided to take a drunken walk right in front of my path as I’m driving down the street minding my own business. Needless to say I stopped short of mowing the guy down, and for good measure I leaned on the horn. Well that was a stupid thing to do because then the guy decided to get belligerent. He got as far as putting his hand through my car window before I decided to tear ass out of there. Two weeks later, same street, in broad daylight, two more guys pulled the same stunt, walking right in front of my moving vehicle. A week later, again the same stupid thing, different part of town. Then to cap it off, Maureen is out a couple of nights ago sitting at a stoplight and some drunken fool decides to menace her with a crutch he was carting around. She is not a happy camper. So this and a bunch of other stuff and I believe we’ve heard the message loud and clear. Time to leave town. And we’re going to.Jeremy Myers is the owner of Lyssabeth’s www.oregonweddingofficiants.com
