It amazes me at the number of fad diets that exist. The reality is that people were able to lose weight long before all of these diet books came on TV shows every afternoon, and motivational speakers started telling us how to eat.

The real “secret” way to lose stomach fat is to count calories. There are diets based on this concept, and weight watchers comes to mind. Everyone has a key number of calories we should be eating each day. For some it might be 2500 for others it might be 3000. What ever that number is, that is the number of calories we need to eat in order to maintain our current weight, and not gain any more.

If we want to start burning belly fat, then we need to modify the number of calories we eat. The hard part is that few of us are eating only what we should each day. In the example above of the person who should eat 2500 a day, they’re probably eating 3000-3500. So the cut can feel drastic unless you also modify what foods you eat.

The math in order to lose belly fat isn’t hard. One pound of fat consists of 3500 calories, so if we are able to cut our calorie intake by 500 calories per day, in comparison to what we should be eating, over a 1 week period then we should lose one pound. Keep this up, and this is a healthy weight loss rate, and you’ll shed those extra pounds for good.
