Blogging About it All

Nearly one third of the adult population of the United States is now suffering from high blood pressure and a large proportion of those being treated for the condition are taking high blood pressure medication. Now this in itself may not be a surprise but what is surprising is the number of young adults under the age of 45 who are now taking medication for high blood pressure. It’s almost unbelievable but this figure is now approaching 9 million!

What is unclear is whether this is because a growing number of younger people are suffering from high blood pressure or whether we are simply getting better at diagnosing the condition. This could well be the case when you consider that about one third of all sufferers are still undiagnosed. Another possibility might be that we are becoming less concerned than we used to be about taking prescription medications. Whatever the reason, this figure is certainly very worrying.
