Blogging About it All

When you look at Victorian era fashions, you have to wonder how the women survived. Not only were they all cinched up in girdles that made their waists look as skinny as wasps, but there were endless layers of fabric, ruffles and bustles laid over pantaloons, chemises and slips. And don’t forget the heavy stockings, which were held up with uncomfortable garters. All of this had to be worn regardless of the season – at least in formal settings. The poor women must have been sweating like crazy, shaded only by tiny parasols that probably were only for show and didn’t even block the sun.
