One of the best activities I did last year with my elementary students was study the true origin of Halloween. While we didn’t get into any of the gruesome details, we did look at a brief history of the holiday and how we celebrate it today. We also looked at how other cultures view this day and what they do compared to us. Finally, we set up a big Halloween Countdown bulletin board to get us excited for our classroom party. The kids put up facts they had learned next to the number of days left display. This unit of study gave the kids new knowledge about one of their favorite days.
